The development of disruptive technology has many faces. This module focuses on the many themes that are closely related to new technologies: ethics, privacy and their impact on modern society and democracy. How do we deal with transparency, responsibility and justice when developing big data and AI tools? How can innovators ensure disruptive products and services do not violate ethical norms and values? How do regulations, such as the GDPR, aid in protecting these norms and what are the implications thereof for privacy protection within your organization?
Wat leer je in deze opleiding?
(What will you learn during this course?)
This course aims to provide students with a thorough, yet practical understanding of the ethical and regulatory challenges related to digital innovation. You will be provided with knowledge of the theoretical foundation of the fields of ethics and regulation. You will further learn why privacy is of increasing importance in the age of digitalization, and get a feel for how the GDPR aims to protect privacy-related interests. Other ethical risks related to big data, AI and IoT are explored as well, along with the challenges they pose to regulators. But what good is knowledge of ethical risks if it cannot be translated into practice? Through the lens of Value Sensitive Design, this course will teach you how to take the protection of ethical norms and values into account when designing innovative technologies, products and services.
