This course is a practice-oriented program at an academic level. If you are looking for a mix between practice and theory and would like to put what you have learned into practice, this is the program for you.
This module draws on a textbook and a set of complementary academic papers to further explore Business Analytics from a managerial perspective. Based on global trends in digitalisation, the module aims to equip managers with the necessary knowledge to better understand and manage the main elements that drive transformation in today’s enterprises. In this regard, data rich environments have become instrumental in improving services to customers and stakeholders. It is necessary to recognize how a coherent data strategy to organise, govern, analyse and deploy an organisation’s data and information assets in these environments, can add significant business value. As a result, a deeper understanding of the three Business Analytics types and accompanying mechanisms and tools to support decision-making, are required.
The module starts with an introduction to data strategy and the creation of business value associated with Big Data analytics. Then, the three types of Business Analytics (descriptive, predictive and prescriptive) are introduced over a course of four weeks. In addition, the following elements that are important for the management of data-rich environments are covered: privacy and ethics of data, creating business value through social media analytics, service innovation, the power of data analytics for decision-making and critical elements to manage Business Analytics projects.
Be knowledgeable about data strategy and how Big Data and Business Analytics can add business value.
Understand the three types of Business Analytics techniques: descriptive, predictive analytics (data mining, text, web and social media analytics), and prescriptive analytics (optimisation and simulation).
Acquire knowledge of the accompanying tools and techniques, differences, respective application areas and support for decision-making for each Business Analytics type.
Explain the importance of data/information management and governance for successful Business Analytics initiatives.
Identify key elements and best practices to successfully manage Business Analytics projects.
Be knowledgeable about privacy principles and regulations related to personal data/information and the role of ethics in Business Analytics.
Actively engage with peer students through online discussions and peer review activities to refine assessment tasks.
Apply theoretical knowledge to compile a final assessment report that describes the analysis of existing Business Analytics initiatives and recommended change to improve data-driven decision-making through Business Analytics in a real-life case organisation.
The module has a size of 5 ec and the duration approximately 7 weeks. Study load amounts to 16 - 20 hours per week. You will receive 6 months registration rights for a single module.
You can study the program independently at your own pace in the online learning environment of the Open University. You will receive personal support from a content specialist university teacher. Main language of this professional course is English. Submitting an assignment in Dutch is possible in consultation with the teacher.
There are two ways to follow the CPC Business Analytics:
1. You choose to complete this course independently and make your own study schedule within the registration period of 6 months.
2. You complete this course together with the students from the CPP Business Controller and follow a fixed schedule. You will complete the course within 7 weeks. Study load is 16-20 hours per week. You can request the timetable via email@example.com.
