Innovating for Resilience

The multidisciplinary research program Innovating for Resilience focuses on tackling some of the global modern challenges in order to build resilient social systems. All disciplines that are represented within the Open Universiteit contribute to the programme.

Turning points

In 2023 the programme entered a new phase. In order to strenghten the true interdisciplinary nature of the research the focus is directed on four specific societal challenges in which turning points are a central theme:

  1. Inequalities in Vulnerable Areas
  2. Digital Transformation
  3. Open Societies
  4. Broad Sustainability

The following three projects are selected and start in the beginning of 2024:

  1. Chronic pAIn programme: AI-driven personalized therapeutic approach for chronic musculoskeletal pain treatment
  2. Empowering Resilience through Financial Literacy: Bridging the Wealth Gap
  3. From historic injustices to empowered futures: the role of marginalized communities and intergenerational values in shaping inclusive sustainability transactions.

Before 2023 the programme Innovating for Resilience focused on themes that can be grouped along three lines.

  1. Safety and Resiliency in Urban Environments
  2. Innovation in Education
  3. Learning and Innovation in Resilient Systems

In 2021 and 2022 a series of projects within these themes have started.
