AECT 2020 award Rob Koper
AECT, the Association for Educational Communications and Technologies has awarded the Distinguished Development Award 2020 to Rob Koper, university professor at the Open University of the Netherlands. This award recognizes the most distinguished scholars in the fields of educational technology, instructional design, learning sciences, and other related areas of research.

Substantial and sustained research

Rob Koper received the award for his substantial and sustained research in the areas of Innovation of Educational Institutes, Learning Design, Learning Networks for Professional Development and Smart Learning Environments.

Career at the Open University

Rob Koper started working at the Open University of the Netherlands in 1987. He finished his PhD in 1992. In 1998 he was appointed as Professor and Programme Leader Learning Design Research & Development. From 2007 to 2013 he was Dean of the faculty of Educational Sciences and Director of the Centre for Learning Sciences and Technologies (CELSTEC). In 2013 he was appointed as Distinguished professor (University Professor) at the Open University.

The award

The AECT Distinguished Development Award is awarded each year to the most distinguished scholars in the fields of educational technology, instructional design, learning sciences, and other related areas of research. The nominees are reviewed by the ETR&D-Development Editorial Board. The Board awarded the 2020 prize to Rob Koper and Peggy Ertmer, professor at Purdue University.
