Best student award OU Computer Technology student
The Best Student Paper Award of the 12th International Conference on Scalable Uncertainty Management, which took place at the beginning of October 2018 in Milan, is awarded to Raphaela Butz, working at the TH Cologne and PhD student of the Department of Technology  She received the award for the paper 'Explaining The Most Probable Explanation (MPE)', which she worked on together with her supervisors, Dr. Arjen Hommersom and Prof. Dr. Marko van Eekelen.

An adapted advice method

The article Explaining The Most Probable Explanation (MPE) focuses on explaining automatically generated advice, for example in a medical context. MPE is an existing, well-functioning advice method. It does provide advice, but does not explain it. In the paper Raphaela Butz and her co-authors expand this method with results from the argumentation theory. Medical professionals gain insight into what the resulting advice is based on. In addition, the method now offers the opportunity to see why other explanations are less likely.
