Willem Buijnk, Professor Accounting, receives Anthony G. Hopwood Award for Academic Leadership
The prize was awarded by the European Accounting Association (EAA) at a ceremony at the EAA Annual Congress in Pathos, Cyprus, 29th-31th May 2019. .

The Annual Congress of the European Accounting Association is a major event that takes place in a different country during springtime each year. The EAA Annual Congress offers a unique opportunity for presenting research and finding out what colleagues in the fields of management and accounting are doing. Every year between 1.200 and 1.500 delegates attend this popular event and around 800 and 1.000 papers are presented in parallel sessions and research fora.

About the Award

The Award was established in 2005 and renamed to honour Professor Anthony G. Hopwood, who played a prominent role in the creation and development of the EAA. The Anthony G. Hopwood Award is intended to recognize academic excellence, combined with academic leadership and contribution to the EAA.

About Willem Buijnk

Willem Buijnk is Professor of Accounting at the Faculty of Management, Science & Technology of the Open University of the Netherlands. Buijnk's research interests concern the economics of external financial reporting, the regulation and its historical development. He has co-initiated three successful consecutive EU-sponsored research programmes specifically aimed at training young financial reporting researchers in the EU: CREA, HARMONIA and INTACCT.  These days he is interested in the history of the corporation and accounting; the social responsibility of corporations and accounting, and auditing. He is an academic member of the board of the new Foundation for Auditing Research in the Netherlands.
