Every year the Open Universiteit organises a number of recurring activities and events. Each time a current theme or issue is raised which is approached in a scientific way.
Dies natalis
The dies natalis is the official birthday of the Open Universiteit and is celebrated with an academic sitting, reception and a dinner for the professors. In anniversary years, this is accompanied by the granting of honorary doctorates. The theme in 2016 was: Open Science - Open Data: How 'open' should science be?
Opening of the academic year
Every year around 1 September, universities in the Netherlands open the new academic year.
