Learning Analytics for schools
At the Learning Analytics and Knowledge (LAK) conference in Sydney that took place from 5 till 9 March 2018 Marcus Specht, professor at the Welten Institute, participated in the Learning Analytics in Schools workshop.

The workshop was opened with a talk of Simon Buckingham Shum on What is learning analytics and how do we define the components, as also combine these with human factors? The participants discussed the main reasons for why the research community needs look at LA in schools:

  • raising analytics literacy
  • a new dialogue between developers and educators
  • create a future in which teachers and students want to live in.

For future school settings the group of practitioners and researchers and policy makers discussed the measurement of school improvement in general, how to get students engaged critically with LA data, or how the benefits could be transferred to all educational sectors.
