Work packages

Eight work packages have been set up within the project, in which all participating universities are represented, to work together to achieve the objectives of OpenEU.

Within each university, developments in the project are monitored by a project manager who is responsible for coordinating, monitoring and adjusting progress within the institution where necessary.

  • WP1 - Governance and management for a solid and sustainable Open European University
    Objective: To build solid and sustainable foundations for the creation, consolidation and effective governance of the Open European University through the implementation of the OpenEU Strategic Plan 2025-2028.

  • WP2 - Making lifelong learning for employability a reality
    Objective: To set up and put the means for the Alliance to bolster employability and lifelong learning for all, by both empowering these learners and improving the flexibility, relevance and responsiveness of OpenEU in an evolving labour market.

  • WP3 – Widening participation of under-represented groups in Higher Education and Lifelong Learning
    Aim: To co-create and realise sustainable, digitally-enhanced processes for in-house capacity building in facilitating Higher Education access and success of four under-represented groups of students, namely: women in STEAM, migrants and refugees, people with disabilities, and people living in rural areas.

  • WP4 – Joint research and innovation in digital education
    Aim: To cultivate and grow an Inclusive and Collaborative Living Lab that brings together both expertise and needs from researchers, and societal and industrial stakeholders to generate digitally-enabled and AI-powered educational innovations that will chiefly contribute to the three thematic focus areas and the United Nations sustainability goals ("climate change”; Democracy and European Values', 'Digital Transformation') and 'Quality of Education'.

  • WP5 – Build capacity and harness the power of digital education
    Objective: To instil shared capacity for knowledge and know-how about the power of digital education in higher education in Europe, in our neighbourhoods and beyond, and to position OpenEU as the “to-go-to” European University Alliance for gaining open and/or distance education knowledge learning and contribute to the digital transition processes.

  • WP6 – Inclusive and green internationalisation, mobility and joint programmes in OpenEU seamless digital campus environment
    Objective: To build the foundations for the transnational consolidation of joint programmes and the mobility opportunities for all, including non-traditional and lifelong learners, in a seamless and multilingual digital campus environment.

  • WP7 – Building a vibrant and engaged community among all the OpenEU stakeholders
    Objective: To build a vibrant and sustainable OpenEU community that facilitates effective cooperation between the members of the consortium and promotes a long-term commitment to community development and collaboration with external stakeholders.

  • WP8 – Communication, Dissemination and Advocacy
    Objectives: To communicate and disseminate the innovative, inclusive, digital and green nature of OpenEU at local, national, European and international level, and to involve policymakers and other key stakeholders in the creation and offering of the Lifelong Learning and Higher Education opportunities and achievements, and to show how they can benefit higher education institutions across Europe, EU governance, citizens and the community as a whole.
