Medical training in the use of ultrasound supported by augmented reality
A third trial of WEKIT wearable technology took place at EBIT Srl, in Genova, Italy from 8 to 12 May 2017. During the trial, participants learned how to perform a carotid artery screening using an ultrasound machine. The trial began with the building of a learning scenario with the WEKIT.One.Recorder developed by researchers in the Welten Institute. This scenario was then loaded into the WEKIT.One.Player to show the basic steps for using the ultrasound including how to move the probe and how to get good quality echographic scans.
A positive experience
Participants included medical experts and trainees, many of whom were 6th year medical students who hadn’t had a chance to use an ultrasound machine before. The experience proved to be a positive one for those taking part who liked the fact that it provided them with a good crash course on using ultrasound.
