Tyconstructor: Mini-Games That Foster Entrepreneurial Competence For The Construction Sector

The TYCON project will develop a set of online and mobile minigames. These games are aimed at students following a training in the field of construction, as well as professionals allready employed in construction. The game players are a ‘virtuele trainees’. The are confronted with realistic situations that they have to solve. While doing so they are supported and receive feedback from the programma. The project not only targets the construction workers in training, but also the educational institutions and other training centers / educators for construction, as well as branch organisations working on professional qulifications, and construction companies.

Ancient Cities
European project (Erasmus+)
The ERASMUS+ Strategic Partnership "Ancient Cities" is an international project which brings together universities from six different European countries to enhance digital learning in the humanities. The project aims at producing the MOOC Discovering Greek & Roman Cities intended for a broad audience and a digital learning module for students of higher education institutions. The Faculty of Educational Sciences contributes its expertise on educational technology to develop the MOOC and the online module.

Open Virtual Mobility (openVM)
European project (Erasmus+)
Open Virtual Mobility (openVM) is a European strategic partnership dedicated to creating accessible opportunities for achievement of virtual mobility skills to ensure higher uptake of virtual mobility in higher education in Europe and is funded under the European Erasmus+ Program. Virtual Mobility (VM) has a great potential to contribute to the internationalisation, innovation and inclusion in higher education. The barriers to physical mobility of educators and students such as high costs, socio-economic, political and health-related issues, can be dramatically reduced by adding the virtual component to mobility and, making mobility accessible to all!

RU EU?
European project (Erasmus+)
The aim of the project RU EU? is to develop a game that will support young people in exploring national and European identity and values and the impact that these have on tackling the problems and making the decisions that are important to young Europeans. The game has an educational dimension: it provides young Europeans with the opportunity to extend and test their knowledge of Europe and European customs, values and traditions in a fun and engaging way but also to solve challenging problems surrounding issues which are rooted in notions of identity. The game also has a social dimension that requires players to collaborate in tackling the problem solving and decision making scenarios in order to successfully complete these.

LearnSTEM: Innovative STEM learning in schools
European project (Erasmus+)
Main goal of Learn STEM is to improve the quality and efficiency of STEM learning in secondary schools. Consequently Learn STEM aims at increasing the pupils' interest in STEM and building STEM competences. And Learn STEM aims at strengthening secondary schools capacity to develop skills in subjects such as science, technology, engineering and mathematics through innovative and interactive pedagogical methods and approaches. The project will provide teachers and schools with a pedagogical model and educational tools to support pupils to connect with the ‘real-life’ applications of STEM, in particular related to Internet of Things (IoT) and robotics, which represent two very popular sectors in the technological field.

UppGames: Basic Health and Safety skills on Works at Height through Serious Games

The project continues the work done in Health & Safety Games, the initiative that developed a mobile application (app) to improve the learning of basic skills in Health and Safety, through educational games, together with partners from Germany, Finland, Italy, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Romania. In this project the six partners from Spain, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Italy and Slovenia focus on the development of a mobile application for learning occupational risk prevention for work at heights.

Work process orientation is one of the key factors in construction VET, which among others decides upon the success of an individual in the labour market. The better entire (holistic) work processes are understood by skilled workers, the better worker and company fit together. The objective of the project is to analyse in detail the existing models and methods of work process orientation and the degree of application in VET in the partner countries. This analysis should lead to a homogeneous approach for work process orientation throughout the partners countries but also to third countries for the European Labour Market in construction.

Wekit: Wearable Experience for Knowledge Intensive Training

WEKIT stands for Wearable Experience for Knowledge Intensive Training. WEKIT is an ambitious European research and innovation project supported under Horizon 2020 to develop and test within three years a novel way of industrial training enabled by smart Wearable Technology (WT). In particular, 13 WEKIT partners representing academia and industry from six countries in Europe will build a ground-breaking industrial-strength learning technology platform and unique methodology to capture expert experience and share it with trainees in the process of enabling immersive, in-situ, and intuitive learning. In this way, WEKIT will bring learning content and technical documentation to life via task-sensitive Augmented Reality (AR), making industrial training more efficient, affordable and engaging.

TeSLA: An Adaptive Trust-based e-assesment System for Learning
European project (H2020)
The aim of TeSLA is to improve the online assessment process by introducing tools and resources in learning activities that gather data that enable students to be authenticated and identified. By means of this innovative online assessment system, TeSLA opens up new opportunities for educational institutions. The universities involved in the project will undertake a series of large-scale pilot tests with over 14,000 students from all over Europe, respecting social and cultural differences, guaranteeing equal opportunities and providing an inclusive solution.

MicroElectronics Cloud Alliance (MECA)

The project is aimed at improving the European higher education curriculum in microelectronics and nanotechnology. It will do this through building a cloud infrastructure for sharing teaching materials, remote access to equipment and facilities, and virtual students mobility. It is led by the Technical University of Sofia. Eight higher education institutions and seven SMEs cooperate in the project to develop 16 courses.

I-SECURE: Empowering education systems in information security

Schools are best placed to teach children the digital and critical literacy skills to maximize opportunities and minimize risks. ICT security should therefore become a core dimension of the curriculum and teachers should receive specific training on this topic to empower them to develop measures for a safe use of ICT. Therefore, the project aims to develop an ‘information security culture' to increase the awareness in this field as a crucial step in the digitization process of the educational contexts. Moreover, the project will develop and test the 'I Secure Agent prototype course methodology and curriculum' and the 'Technology Enhances Learning I Secure eco-system', which will represent ready to use tools and instruments for supporting teacher training and empowering them in the field of information security in school education.

MedLit: Media Literacy and Social Change

We live in a media society, where people know, what they know, only by their usage of different media channels. The quality of media communication combined with the usage of those media determines the quality of the internal social relationships and changes the culture of social cohesion, social participation, social attention and their policies. Therefore, media competence has to be valued as the social and cultural capital of society. The MedLit project wants to establish a transnational media literacy program, creating a network of European and Asian universities who exchange knowledge on the use of media to further social relationships and change. Together they will develop a MOOC on media literacy that teaches how to apply the media within their own social context for social change.

Interactive practicals for active and situated learning about the psychology master and professions
Principal investigator: Hans Hummel
Problems with the current IP course (Introduction to Psychology) are that: 1.Content is outdated and in need of integration with psychological history, 2.Knowledge is considered too factual and boring to study, and 3. Retention and dropout rates are disappointing and in need of structuring and motivation mechanisms. Potential solutions are seen in case-based interactive practicals (CBIP), which will offer more active and situated ways of learning about the psychology program and future professions in psychology. This project will therefore design, develop and evaluate an integrated set of game-based, practical assignments where students actively engage with situated knowledge about the future study and potential career paths. We will both compare the old and new course, and carry out experimentation within the new game variants, using a triangulation of methods and techniques: qualitative surveys (measuring enjoyability and effectiveness), quantitative experiments (measuring actual learning effects) and logging (measuring retention and dropout).

SHEILA: Supporting Higher Education Institutes with Learning Analytics

SHEILA aims to develop a framework that will guide policy development for learning analytics adoption in higher education in Europe at the levels of ministries of higher education, quality assurance bodies, and institutions. It is in close cooperation with the Society of Learning Analytics and the FP7 project LACE. OUNL is one of the consortiumpartners. The project H&S games is designed to address the acquisition of basic health and safety skills through innovative methods, as serious game is. It will develop, test and implement an online training tool regarding basic Health and Safety matters for a building site. This tool will be deployed using mini-games scenarios in order to facilitate users mobile learning. It is led by the Fundación Laboral de la Construcción (Spainje). By gathering knowledge along the seven European countries of this Strategic Partnership, it is expected to cover all countries' needs with a common tool and approach and with a shared accreditation.

GO2B project: Open Badges

The GO2B project will create an Open Badges scheme for recognising relevant skills gained through (international) student exchange experiences (motivation, autonomy, intercultural competences, etc.). The OU is a partner in the project consortium and will conduct research on the reception and acceptance of the badges by pupils, teachers and industry. The project is coordinated by Stichting openbaar onderwijs Jan van Brabant (NL). The other partners are Sint-Lambertus 3 (BE), DigitalME (UK), Jialei&co (NL) and EUNEOS Oy (FI).

The aim of the project is to establish a European virtual research centre in order to integrate and coordinate research on serious games and promote dissemination of the related knowledge, best practices and tools. The project will also promote industrial innovation through business-academy dialogue, and the development of high-quality didactics on serious games through the set-up of specialised MSc and PhD courses.

EMuRgency
EMuRgency: New approaches for resuscitation support and training
The project focuses on increasing awareness about the problem of cardiac arrest in the Euregio Rhine-Meuse and finally increasing survival rates. To reach this goal the consortium members develop, evaluate and implement a notification system for volunteers and develops and implements a range of targeted edcuational products (‘classic' e-learning content, learning scenarios for mobile devices and game patterns). A dedicated training concept for secondary schools will be developed and evaluated within a cross-border school network.
