There has been a growing interest in how higher education can provide students with a meaningful bridge between knowledge and experience for better academic achievement. To follow this goal, within this PhD project a more authentic, reflective and collaborative (mARC) instructional design model for the students involved in Master of Education program will be developed. In order to engage students in processes of re- and de- contextualization of their knowledge and experience, three different but mutually complimentary components of the instructional design will be considered: authentic learning activities, reflective learning activities and collaborative learning activities. During four studies, the project intends to address the questions: (a) what are the main characteristics of the learning environments, (b) how they are correlated and mutually influenced, and (c) to what extend they affect students’ academic achievement, learning satisfaction and learning motivation?
